Dan Mazur Ama Dablam Expedition: Dispatch 9 |
 |
 |
|
Dispatch Nine:
Note ALL is well with
Dan's team. Note the team filed this
report with us on Saturday.
We have held the report until today.
Dear EverestNews.com, We have sad
news to report. Today (11 October) at around noon,
Robert Rackl, the leader of the Amical Expedition
fell to his death from approximately 5850 meters.
Apparently, he was descending from camp 2, when he
slipped, and the old rope he was clipped to broke,
and he fell 30 or more meters down a rock face,
landing in snow, and dying very quickly from his
injuries. |
|
We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all
of the members of the Amical team. All of us are in shock, and extremely sad,
as Robert was a very nice man, and a skillful and experienced climber.
Our own team is now divided, with 9 members in advanced basecamp (abc), at
approximately 5400 meters and 6 members in basecamp. All of our members and
Sherpas are safe.
We are taking a moment to grieve over this tragedy, and will let you know
of our plans shortly. We are very sorry to have to send this dispatch. Very
Sadly Yours, from all of us at SummitClimb.com
