The South Face of Nuptse Autumn 2003 Update 2

Valery Babanov’s phone message: On the 22nd and 23rd of September we made two route walks and were processing the lowest part of a wall. We reached 5700 m altitude. It is raining and snowing every day. We wish to meet a probable weather window as high as possible. Today American team started acclimatizing at Bonington route while we were having a rest. We plan to continue our work tomorrow and to return to a base camp in the evening. A `ceremony’ of official opening of our base camp is to take place on the 28th of September as we were prescribed to do so by Pangboche lama.
