Nuptse East.
Preparing for a final bid.
Message from Valery Babanov, Nuptse
base camp:
Hi! As you could guess, today
(October 17) as well as tomorrow we are having a rest. Yesterday evening
we returned from our acclimatization climb. It took three full days at
high altitude plus one more day for our climb down to the base camp. We
had finished the last segment of South edge and spent a night at 6900 m. |
Fortunately, weather was fine during our
climb and it was not so cold. I failed to find any of the equipment that we
left last year, though. Anyhow, now it’s not so important as we had remade all
the work. Now we are underneath already. Here we met our support team leaded
by Irina Agarkova
We plan to descent to Dingboche for a
pair of days on the 18th of October. We’ll
try to recover there.
Our final bid is planned for the 21st of October. As
we think now, it will take 5 or 6 days. But one never can tell with weather.
We are physically and mentally 100% ready for an
assault, the rest depends on weather. If God blesses us,
we’ll
do it.
That’s all for today, our regards to our families, friends, and all who think
of us
Valera and Yura.
