Manaslu 2003: Jeff Justman Dispatches
|
|
|
Manaslu, at 8163 meters, is the eighth highest
peak in the world. It is located in the
west-central part of Nepal, and our team will
climb it by the original route. |
Tuesday, March 18,
2003 Jeff Justman Dispatch
We received a phone
call from JJ on Tuesday. He said the team is at Soti
Khola on the trek into Manaslu Basecamp. He said there
are 150 porters in the caravan. It is a big caravan.
So far the trip is
going great! They are at approximately 3000 feet in a
jungle type climate and it is very warm. They have
endured heavy rains and they are only on the second
day of trekking. They are on their way to Tato Pani
for their third day of camping on the long trek in.
They should be in Sama in approximately 8 days and
then base camp is one day farther. Base camp resides
at approximately 16,000 feet.
They are doing well
so far and he will call back soon with more updates.
