Pumori 2003 featuring Dan Mazur: Dispatch One
|
Dispatch One: It was
a lovely day in Kathmandu today. Our day started with
a fantastic breakfast at Orion's Guesthouse in Thamel.
So far Dan and Jay have been busy working on getting
the climbing and medical equipment together. This is a
huge task - almost 5000m of rope, 60 ice screws, 100
snow stakes and 500 high altitude gas cartridges have
to be bought and packed for transport. Our Medical
Kits have had to be re-stocked also. We have extremely
extensive kits and can treat any emergency from a
small cut to a broken bone! These also have to be
packed, ready for transport. So far we've sent by
plane, approximately 1000kgs of food to Lukla for the
Expedition. Lhakpa Sherpa and our Sirdar, Kinuri
Sherpa, are in Lukla also, guarding the food and
patiently awaiting our arrival on the 17th.
Two members from the
Pumori Expedition have already arrived in Kathmandu -
Erich Bongars from Germany, and Frederick Myolert form
Belgium. Erich has been on a five day trek and is
expected back at the Nepa Hotel tomorrow, while
Frederick has gone ahead into the Khumbu and will meet
us in Namche Bazaar on the 19th.
That's about it from
us now - we're about to have dinner at "La Dolcie
Vita" - a fine Italian restaurant in the heart of
Thamel. Another busy day tomorrow. We'll send more
news then.
Thank You from all of
us on the
SummitClimb 2003 Pumori Expedition.
