Eight:
We're terribly sorry about the delay in dispatches
- Dan and Jay have been high on the mountain for
the last 10 days and we desperately lack a person
in basecamp to keep the reports flowing.
However, the last week and a half has provided
some excellent results with 7 members representing
5 nations reaching the summit on the 7th and 8th
April. |

Also reaching the summit were the famous Nepalese
climbers, Lakpa Sherpa, Jangbu Sherpa and Tenzing
Sherpa, from Nepal. Shera Sherpa nearly reached the
summit, but was tired after making an amazing attempt
from camp 1.
Summit day conditions were a bit cold with ambient air
temps of -25 Celsius with no wind at 6.00am. With a 10
knot breeze blowing, the start of the day was
refreshing to say the least! The teams reached the
summit at 2.30pm and 12.30pm respectively on both
days. The climb up was challenging - 700m of 30-55
degree snow and ice, but because we only had time to
fix the route to camp 2 at 6490 meters, the summit
teams (roped together) also had to down climb every
meter! We reached basecamp yesterday with no mishaps
and with everybody healthy.
Well,
we're about to leave Basecamp. The tents are all down,
yaks are loaded and members are starting to trickle
out. Its another sunny and beautiful day at Pumori,
what has been described as Nepal's easiest 7000 meter
peak. Thanks very much for your coverage and fantastic
support to our expedition and to Himalayan climbing in
general, telling everyone about our favorite sport,
climbing to the summits of Himalayan mountains!

Fredje haalt de top, ik niet. Op het moment supreme
ben ik teveel verzwakt. Maar in tegenstelling tot mijn
verwachting ben ik niet ontgoocheld. Het zou slechts
de kers op de taart geweest zijn. De Pumori is een
machtige berg. De route stijl en technisch, een unieke
ervaring. Het uitzicht en de omgeving zijn zo
overweldigend dat ik gewoon dankbaar ben om hier te
zijn. Nous sommes des chansards de pouvoir etre au
Nepal et de vivre cette aventure. Les jours de la
decente vers Lukla vont encore etre tres beaux. Merci
Himalayan Expeditions pour la bonne organisation,
bedankt sherpa's voor jullie eeuwige smile en
bereidheid tot helpen hoe en waar dan ook. Bedankt
Nepal en Himalaya om er te zijn. Bedankt lieve B. om
er te zijn en het begrip voor al die 'dwaze' exploten.

Hallo zusammen, hier jetzt noch die leider schon etwas
reduzierte deutsche Fraktion. Wolfgang hat uns bereits
vor ein paar Tagen mit Lungenproblemen richtung
Kathmandu verlassen. Am 8.04.03 waere fuer Erich und
mich der Gipfeltag gewesen. Nach einer schlechten
Nacht in Camp 2 war fuer Erich (62) bei ca. 6950 m
Schluss; ich durfte mit Jay, Levi und Deno den Gipfel
erreichen. Jetzt sind wir wieder alle gesund im
Basislager vereint und bereiten uns auf unseren
Abmarsch vor, der Zivilisation entgegen und einem
wohlverdienten Bier. Das war es aus dem Pumori-Basislager.
