Aconcagua 2004 Matt Brennan

Matt Brennan is native of Worthington, Ohio. At the age of 15 Matt journeyed out west on an extended trip to Montana and Wyoming with a high school church group. It was here that he fell in love with the mountains. “I remember when I first saw the Tetons on the drive from Yellowstone and I could not get over the beauty”. Like most climbers, Matt views the mountains differently. “Most people are content to look at them for their beauty, I have always looked at mountains for the challenge. The best view is almost always from the summit!”

In the late 1990’s, Matt decided to do what he always wanted to do-climb big mountains. “I was closet enthusiast who decided to do something about it. I was getting older and realized that the window of opportunity was closing.” Brennan signed up to climb Rainier, but failed to show. “It was always one reason or another-I paid the fee and never made it to the mountain”. In 2002, Matt made the commitment to climbing and summitted Longs Peak and Mt. Rainier. In 2003, Matt summitted Ruco Pinchea, Illiniza Norte and Cotopaxi in Ecuador along with Mt. Elbrus (Russia) and Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). The upcoming trip to Aconcagua will be an attempt at his highest altitude to date.

When not climbing, Matt (42) is the father of two stepsons ages 20 and 18, along with a daughter Madeline (4) and Blake (3). He is the founder and CEO of Loveland Excavating, Inc., an award winning full service site development company that employs 85 people. In addition to climbing, Matt enjoys coaching high school football and playing golf. “I have a wonderful and supportive wife, Susan who allows me the opportunity to take on these challenges-but not for long. I thank her for putting up with me”.

We are the only 5 climbers on the mountain (this was 24 hrs after Wally Berg's team descended without summitting due to whiteout conditions). We chose to go for it and we climbed through a snow storm to a beautiful sun swept summit. It was worth breaking trail through fresh snow for!!! matt Brennan
