Nepalese
Team, which attended Royal Nepalese Embassy Function in London on 12th
November & UK’s Kendal Film Festival on 16th November for distribution of
Everest Golden Jubilee Awards to the Everest Summiteers have returned to
Kathmandu after completing their successful visit. The team led by Mr. Ang
Tshering Sherpa, President of Nepal Mountaineering Association was
comprised of Mr. Appa Sherpa, the 13 times veteran Everest Summiteer, Mr.
Bikrum Pandey, Vice President II and Mr. Ang Phurba Sherpa, Chairman of
Sherpa Welfare Committee.
In the gathering
President Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa announced that Nepal is celebrating Cho
Oyu Golden Jubilee in 2004. He further said that it will be organizing
Himalayan Film Festival of International Standard in 2004 under the NMA’s
banner to commemorate the Cho Oyu Golden Jubilee. Most of the film
producers presented there have given assurance that they would support
Himalayan Film Festival to be held in 2004.

The Nepalese Team had also
had cordial conversation with Sir Chris Bonington, George Band, Alan
Hinkes, Catherine Destivelle and UIAA President Ian McNaught Davis. Sir
Bonington and UIAA President Ian McNaught Davis suggested that NMA Peaks
be categorized little bit differently from what it is called now as
Trekking Peaks. They argued that some of the peaks were very difficult and
most challenging. Mr. UIAA President Ian McNaught Davis came out with the
idea that difficult and challenging peaks should be renamed as Venture
Peaks as the word venture signifies challenging the unknown. Vice
President of NMA Mr. Bikrum Pandey has agreed to take up this issue in NMA
Board meeting for necessary ratification.
President Ang Tshering
Sherpa has extended invitation to most of the Everest Summitteers and
other prominent mountaineers presented there for attending Cho Oyu Golden
Jubilee and Himalayan Film Festival next year. Invitation has been given
to Sir Chris Bonnington as Keynote speaker.
