Update
from 7/28/2001: Details are very sketchy. But all 7
members of the Ararat 2001 Peace Climb Expedition, Nasuh
Mahruki, David Keaton,
Marcelo Arbelaez, Fernando
Gonzales Rubio, Khoo
Swee Chiow, Ricardo
Torres-Nava, and Tunc
Findik, have made the Summit of Ararat via the
North side of the mountain.
Update
10:30am, we talked to David and Swee by sat phone...
All
climbers are safe and down at BC. They quickly told us
many details and the summit story. The sat phone kept
cutting out, and we only got every 2-4 words.
Therefore, we prefer to let them tell you the story
themselves in a better form. The climbers will send
e-mails the next 24-48 hours. It was a long haul, much more dangerous (in several
ways) and technical than they expected. No individual
should attempt the North side of Ararat.
