The
2001 Ararat Peace Climb
|
|

|
| Istanbul |
Hello
EverestNews.com readers !
The press
conference went well - good turnout; 4 TV stations and
various other reporters. Swee, Ricardo and David (me) were
asked to comment on the climb in English. Turkey's
minister of sports also took part and will join the climb.
Also
met more folks from AKUT team - plus Tunc.
Everest
summiter fresh from Everest in May. Good guy.
Tomorrow
we fly to Van - tonight pizza at Nasuh's. Right now DK
[David] will go checkout the amazing blue mosque just
up the hill. Istanbul is an appealing mix of
west and east - Europe and Asia and various other combinations.
Worth a look
check
in the pm DK
Dear
EverestNews.com ! [Morning AM]
We
are off to Van now. Could not get through on the net
last night. hope to have better luck in Van.
We
were on nationwide TV in Turkey last night around midnight!
Good show! Please tell me why you climb in one
sentence or less - no seriously the media has been
very gracious and supportive of the team and the good
causes that we are supporting. It was a fun show last
night. Hopefully we will have some pictures to send
soon.
It is
still hot, 37 in the city yesterday - We will be stepping
back in time as we travel to the area where Mt. Ararat
is in this country. Right now we are literally
straddling the frontier of Asia and Europe. Today
we leave the west behind us.
Best
regards, David
Note:
This is the first group of climbers. A second group
will be arriving this weekend and meeting the first
group at Base camp.
