Dispatch#23
January 14th, 2002. Aconcagua Base Camp,
Argentina. Team Canusa Hi
cybercasters, this is Matt Szundy and Allen Carbert
reporting from Base Camp on Aconcagua. Today,
Monday the 14th, our team Canusa, carried to Camp I
at 16,200 feet in very good style, we did it round
trip in seven hours. The Relenchos Glacier has
changed considerably in the past few years, making
our journey interesting and varied. Everybody
was whooped after after our difficult day, but after
a great pesto pasta dinner there was still enough
energy for a late night game of hearts. The
Canadians won. I confirmed my career decision
as a mountain guide as opposed to being a card
shark, by losing miserably. Allen observed.
The weather has been stellar, we've been wearing
shorts here at Base Camp and the wind has been a
gentle breeze. We look forward to a rest day
tomorrow and Allen will touch base then. So
for now this is Matt Szundy at Aconcagua Base Camp
reporting in.
