||Two more Team Members
arrived today - Stuart Maccrimmon from Liverpool, England, and
Cardiff, Wales, and Patrick Bernier from Quebec, Canada. They were
met by Dan and enjoyed dinner at Fire and Ice Pizza with Jeff and
Dave, two friends from Seattle, who just came back from a harrowing
climbing trip on the Nepal-Tibet Border, where they apparently were
shot at by Chinese border police!
Jay took 5 of the 6 Climbing Sherpas, Jangbu, Mindu, Ang Shera,
Galu, and Tek to the Kathmandu Wall Climbing Centre this afternoon
for a training session to brush up their skills. These guys had
never seen such a place and it was great to see their enthusiasm!
Rex took a glancing ground fall during one of the belay practice
sessions, but the rest of the time passed without incident. Our
Sherpas are strong, competent, and keen. They will be a great asset
on the mountain. They received a lot of respect from the other
Nepalese, when they discovered our Sherpas were part of an
Expedition, as a Climbing Sherpa is a highly coveted position in
So far 1900 kgs, most
of it food, and 45 tents, has been sent to Lukla awaiting our
arrival. Lakpa Sherpa is waiting in Lukla, guarding our gear. Not
all of our food, provided by Raja Cold Store, has arrived at the
Nepal Hotel yet - we're expecting it tomorrow.
The additional equipment for our
second route on the mountain, the North Ridge, is slowly coming
together. Dan, Jay and Rex spent the morning pawing through a
mountain of gear, ropes, dufflebags and tents selecting what we
need. Our brand New Black Diamond cams, ice screws, and biners were
looking good. So far 6 people are planning on making an attempt at
the route after our standard route. Dan Mazur, Jay Reilly, Rex
Dougherty, Ian and Andy Prentice and Tom Lannamann.
That's it for today, we will check
in with more news tomorrow.
Thank you very much, from All of us
