- Everest Spring 99 North
Side: "Kangshung Face" Summits ! "We have just
received a Radio Message that confirms the successful climb of 3 Indian
nationals from the Millenium Indian Everest Expedition Team. The
message says that Kusang Dorjee Sherpa, Sange Sherpa and Amar Prakash (all
Indian climbers) arrived at the summit of Mt. Everest at 7:10 a.m. Nepal
time today, 28th May 1999, climbing through the "Kangshung Face".
Thank you. Sincerely, Ang Tshering Sherpa Managing Director
Asian-Trekking. Asian-Trekking and their Sherpa climbers are supporting this
expedition which includes Chuldim Sherpa, who was an Everest Summitter with
the Chilean Expedition Kangshung Face in 1994 according to Asian-Trekking.
- Patagonia Mountain
Agency has updated their site. Check their site for the dispatch.
EverestNews.com, has confirmed that the Italians (at least not part of them)
has not left Everest as was earlier reported by PMA. EverestNews.com simply has
not had time to confirm if the others reporting by PMA (Swiss, Ukrainians)
has left. The confusion probably results from some of the expedition leaving
but not all of them (but that is speculation). EverestNews.com also does not
know if the French part of the Swiss expedition has left.
- Insiders look for an update
in a few hours.

the moment, according to our correspondent in Macau who has moved to
Kathmandu since last Thursday...", We hope the media goes slow with
Joao. EverestNews.com will wait until Joao has had time to rest and reflect on
this experience and then we will talk with Joao. Probably when he contacts
us.

Report 12:39 PM EST
- Everest Spring 99 North
Side: We decided to wait until we
heard something on the North Side. But it is now night in Nepal (and Tibet)
with no report coming.... So what we know is similar to yesterday. Several
climbers are at High camps with Summit attempts expected, but no news of
summits from yesterday yet. Additional news is that we have an unconfirmed
report (from a reliable source, or we would not report it) that the large
Asian-Trekking Expedition with deputy leader Fred Barth will attempt the
summit on the 26th. EverestNews.com has no news on individual climbers in this
group.
- Everest Spring 99 North
Side: It is very hard to report the North Side in real time and
confirm items once several expeditions leave. Look for news on the North
Side to continue in June, with many confirmations and re-caps occurring in
June. Also look for many climbers to be interviewed by EverestNews.com.
- 1999 Everest Summits by
EverestNews.com page has been updated. This page is still DRAFT with additional information
(like yesterday's summits) to be added, including those two mystery
climbers.

1999 K2:Dear
friends who follow EverestNews.com,
Get ready! From Jun
1st on EverestNews.com will transmit "K2 on-line", digital photos and
information sent daily via satellite from Karakorum. You will follow our
expedition step by step, formed by the Italian Abele Blanc, the
Spaniard Pepe Garces and I, the Brazilian Waldemar Niclevicz. Firstly, we
are going to face Gasherbrum and Hidden Peak and then, K2. It won't be easy
to climb those three
mountains, that's why I count on your cheering!
Before
starting my trip, I spent three days in Bolivia. The
weather was terrific and I could climb three
beautiful mountains: Tarija (5,060m), Pequeno Alpamayo
(5,370m) and Condoriri (5,648m). Those mountains are
located near La Paz, on the called
Cordillera Real in Bolivian Andes. It was a pity I
couldn't stay longer, but I believe that those
few days have been enough to alert my organism
that I'll reach higher altitudes.
And now, my friends, I've
already got my suitcases ready ( I mean, backpacks) to K2! I 'm starting my
long trip on May 23rd, leaving Brazil to Italy where I'll meet
Abele Blanc. Together we're going to do the last shopping
and on May 30th we'll leave to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. We'll
meet Pepe Garces there.
Waldemar Niclevicz
Attention: From Jun
1st on "K2 on-line" will start, with digital photos and daily
information, sent via satellite directly from Pakistan.
Project K2 is sponsored by
O BOTICΑRIO, IRIDIUM AND MATTE LEΓO.
