6/07/2001:
"On the 23rd May 2001 at 8am, the Chilean Ladies

planet's highest mountain. The summit was conquered by
5 of the 7 team members - Patricia Soto, Cristina
Prieto, Vivianne Cuq, Philippe Reuter and Christian
Cuq.
At 8400 meters, Anrea Munoz was forced to turn round,
accompanied by Francisco Medine, due to
respiratory problems. The same day she had to go down
to Camp 2 to recover.
The attempt was realized from Camp 4 on the South Col
at 7985 meters. The whole expedition (4 women and 3
men) left together at 22.00hrs on the 22nd May. After
a long climb over mixed ground, the team arrived at
the summit at about 8am in very windy. cold and cloudy
conditions.
Owing to the weather conditions, the group only stayed
for about 10 or 15 minutes. During this time they took
photos to document this historic occasion, even though
most of their equipment wouldn't work due to the
intense cold.
The expedition left Santiago on the 21st March and
will return on the 7th June. Arrival at base camp was
on the 7th April and they left for good on the 28th
May.
Four high camps were established - camp 1 at 6100 meters,
camp 2 (Advanced Base Camp) at 6400m, Camp 3 (7200m)
and Camp 4 at 7985m.
