Climbers
perspectives
and reporting at 8000 meters!
|
Perspective:
EverestNews.com would like to point out to our readers
that each of these climbers tell the story from their
perspective.
They tell the story based on what they
have seen and or heard, which goes to say that in our
experience no one climber can tell the whole,
complete
story.
It also means actions by several climbers are usually
left out of any one story, as no climber has the
knowledge of what all climbers actions were on any
given day or
period of days. As these reports are based solely on
an individuals perspective, they can sometimes be
inaccurate when detailing the big picture. Climbers
reports can also sometimes contain errors.
We
all must understand, especially during Summit attempts,
climbers often have not slept in many hours and are
suffered from being oxygen deprivation along
with other
severe conditions. And these climbers are HUMAN.
EverestNews.com
has probably interviewed more Everest climbers than anyone and we have found that
some stories change between high camp and ...(you pick
the spot, Katmandu, Base camp, home...you get our
point). For example, climbers
have reported others did not Summit when we later
found the climber they disputed in the same summit
picture with them! Climbers normally recall details
differently. That is why we have learned to go slow,
especially when drawing conclusions.
In
the next several weeks EverestNews.com will interview
many of these climbers during/after their attempts. Expect
some of these issues to occur. Sometimes significant information
is obtained and confirmed which will change stories
that were reported by climbers during the time they
were on the
mountain.
It
seems that for climbers, sometimes, getting to the
summit and back down safely is more important than
scrutinizing the details of the day. When they are off
the mountain and safe, the details sometime become
clearer...
Sometimes
we sense people jumping to conclusions. On Everest at
8000 meters, nothing is simple. Go slow,
especially
when drawing conclusions, is our advise ! Once
again, when reading these climbers stories remember
the above :)
