March
27, 2002:
Finally
I reached the Sherpa land. I flew from Katmandu to
Lukla on the 24th on the way to base camp. It is so
great to be back after 15 years on the trail to base
camp. Things has change so much in the Sherpa land
modernity have reached this place, which in a
way is great, food and loading are excellent.
My
trekking companion is named Fred from Denver is keeping
me company up to Pangboche where he will met his buddies
and then climb Ama Dablam [I will bet my sister that
is Fred Barth (Everest summiter and all around nice
guy) that is working now for Fabrizio in Colorado
now. It is a small small world and I don't have a
sister !] and Tony from England who I will meet me
again at Base camp. We had a great laugh at Namche
Bazar for the Tony's birthday .
Today
26, I feel great I am actually at Khumjung the
village of Lakpa Sherpa who is one of the Sherpa
assigned to my expedition and summited Everest twice
from both sides. He is accompanying me all
the way to base camp . I will spend one day
rest and acclimatize before I continue to base camp.
My
next journal will be at base camp where I think will
be there around the 1 or 2 of April. so please be patient.
Au
revoir
Martine
