Moro Everest/Cho Oyu 2002 Expedition |
 |
Ciao
everybody, this is the first message from Cho Oyu
base camp at 5500 meters above sea level. We used 48
yaks to transport 1960 kgs of materials of our 10
member expedition. To be more accurate, only 5 of us
are at base camp, and the other three have decided
to stay at a lower elevation due to light mountain
sickness. The weather conditions up here are very
good, and there are about 10 expeditions at base
camp. The mountain neither looks too easy nor too
accessible, and its beauty is majestic. From our
tends to the Nepalese border the distance is about a
kilometer, and the border is exactly the Nang Pa
Lha, a famous pass crossed by thousands of pilgrims
and traders from Tibet. We are awaiting for the rest
of our team members to join us, and in the meantime
we are already setting up their tents. I feel great
and I think tomorrow I will leave towards the higher
camps. The highest elevation reached by other
expeditions is 7100 meters, and the Sherpas told me
that the conditions up there are fair. I hope I can
send you other messages soon. Handling the computer
and all other electronic equipment is always a
chaos... Ciao Simone Moro
