Update 5/23/2002: One member & one High Altitude Sherpa (Sirdar) of Himalayan Guides Lhotse Expedition Spring 2002 team have succeeded to climb the summit of (8516) meter high Mt. Lhotse on 16th and 17th May 2002 at 3:30 AM and 10:30 AM.

2.      Mr. Mingma Nuru Sherpa (30 years) Khumjung VDC – 7, Solukhumbu, Nepal

The 12 member of Himalayan Guides Lhotse Expedition Spring 2002 team was permitted to climb 8516 meter high Mt. Lhotse from West Face during the spring season of 2002, under the leadership of Mr. Laszlo Mezey, (32 years) Mountain Guide, from Budapest, Hungary.

Update 5/21/2002: Three members and Four High Altitude Sherpas of Himalayan Guides Everest Expedition 2002 have succeeded to climb 8,848 meter high Mt. Everest from South East Ridge on May 16th, 2002 at 10:30 AM [Note we need to confirm this summit date].

Mr. Pashang Chhiri Sherpa (30 Years) from Khumjung – 7, Solu

Mr. Girmi Dorjee Sherpa (25 Years) from Khumjung – 7, Solu 

The Nine member Expedition Team was permitted to climb 8,848 meter high Mt. Everest from South East Ridge under the leadership of Mr. Geoffrey Stanford during the Spring Season of 2002.

04/30 NEWSFLASH: Mr. Peter Legate has passed away on Everest.

Mr. Henry Todd is back with another expedition attempting Everest on the Nepal side of the mountain in Spring 2002. The Everest team includes Jeff Standford, Randall Peeters, Peter Legate, Mike Morris and 5 Hungarian climbers. The 5 Hungarian climbers are  Zoltan Ács, Zsolt Erőss, László Mécs, László Mezey and László Várkonyi. The Hungarians form a separate group from others; named Hungarian Mount Everest Expedition 2002, who are planning to climb the top without oxygen and without help of Sherpa’s. Last Autumn, neither of two Hungarian teams reached the summit of Everest. The present team has been formed from the climbers of last Autumn's two Hungarian expeditions.

Four of Hungarians have already reached peaks over 8000 meters several times. The leader of Hungarian Mount Everest Expedition 2002 is Zoltán Ács, and the technician leader is László Mécs.

On the Lhotse permit is 12 climbers with including 5 Hungarians with Laszlo Mezey as the leader on the permit of the 5 climber Hungarian team planning to climb without oxygen. The Hungarian hope to Summit Everest first "(at least)".

Update 4/27/2002: The Hungarians reported on Saturday that the storm was nothing special "just" another stormy day on the Everest.....

one of their tents have been totally damaged, but they are all fine, up to 7200 m and 7700 m. They planning to get on top around 10-15 May. Best Helena
