Gear
and food weighing a ton and a half already on its
way to Nepal
Part
of the gear sent off in advance left for Nepal from
the Ljubljana airport on 21 August.
The
cargo weighed a ton and a half, and consisted of 40
blue tubs, typically used by Slovenian expeditions
to the Himalaya for gear transportation. The cargo
mostly contained food which is not available in
Nepal and technical gear for the ascent - sleeping
bags, tents, ropes. Also transported was some of the
gear of expedition members, as well as part of the
telecommunications equipment which will be later
used for the transmission of the expeditions'
progress to Slovenia. More elaborate and expensive
gear will take off from the Ljubljana airport
together with the expedition members on Wednesday,
30 August.

Physical
condition
Davo
Karnicar went through the last testings at the
Ljubljana Faculty of Sports, with which his physical
condition was put to test before leaving for Nepal.
The tests should also show progress since May, when
Karnicar first checked his physical performance
under medical supervision.
"Measurements
have shown Davo's specific gift to perform well at
high altitude," says Jure Gorjanc, the doctor
of the expedition. "Davo is in excellent shape,
and made considerable progress since May. His VOmax
(maximum oxygen consumption per kilo of body weight
per minute, the most general endurance indicator)
has risen by over 10% in the last three
months."
