Ben
Clark will attempt to become the youngest American
to Summit Everest in Spring 2003 on the mountain
on his own terms too! He is attempting the North
side via the standard Northeast Ridge. You might
recall Ben from
Dhaulagiri 2002. If you missed it, you will
love his great photo and dispatches which were
part of the coverage of the
Dhaulagiri Expedition 2002. Ben told us, "This
is a dream come true for me and a vision that has
forced me to discipline myself not only for the
daunting tasks of climbing and guiding the world's
highest peaks but also having to overcome the
obstacles in the process and closing a deal with
one of the nations most powerful businessmen. As a
climber I have learned the value of the worlds
highest peak can not be measured in physical
terms, for me it can only be understood by finally
seeing it. " |
"To say it simply, I
am attempting to attain a record that is
inconsequential to climbing as portrayed in the media
today. I believe in the purity of exploration into the
unknown, not for glory, not for the risk nor
challenge, but for discovery. Whether I see the top of
the world or not I know each step up on the mountain
is another step towards progress." His attempt will
not be on a commercial expedition but with the support
of only Lhawang Dhondup Sherpa and Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa.
