Everest 2003: Dick Bass, Jim Wickwire, Dick
Bass, John Roskelley
|
Dick Bass at 73 will
return to climb Everest this spring. Dick is best
known for being the first climber to complete the
Seven Summits
(Kosciusko version) will return as a member of Jim
Wickwire's expedition. Wickwire's expedition was
planned for Ed Hommer's second attempt on Everest, but
sadly
Ed died this last
summer on Rainer. Ed's first attempt was during
Autumn Everest 2001: The American-Canadian Expedition
was featured on EverestNews.com
and can be found here.
Update 3/12/2003: The
team is expected to have a news conference in a few
minute to announce the expedition. Expedition members
include: Jim Wickwire Leader, Dick Bass, John
Roskelley and his son Jess, who is only 20 years old,
according to our sources in Nepal.
Both Jim Wickwire (first
American and 10th person to summit) and John Roskelley
(12th person to Summit) summited K2 back in 1978 on
the expedition led by
Jim Whittaker.
It will be interesting!
Expect this story to be
all over the news wires in the next 24-48 hours, let's
hope they get part of it right, as so much in the news
wires the last year is simply poor reporting.
