Everest 2003: Romanian Everest
Expedition
|
We continue to
receive e-mails on the Romanian plans for 2003, so to
clear up the rumors...
The Romanian
Expedition that was hoping to attempt Everest from the
South side in Spring 2003 without high altitude
Sherpas and w/o bottled oxygen has been transferred to
next year. They plan a first ascent of a 6,000m peak
in Khumbu in May (and then back in Ktm for the Golden
Jubilee ceremony) and a first ascent of a difficult
7,000 meter peak in Kangchenjunga area in autumn.
However, the
Romanians will have a North side expedition, which
will be joining George Dijmarescu on his annual climb
of Everest. George Dijmarescu, you might recall has
summited Everest the last 4 years from the North side.
Joining George will
be Lakpa Sherpa, the first woman Sherpa to Summit
Everest twice (she has summited the South and the
North sides). She will be attempting her third summit,
with a dream to summit 10 times. Look for George and
Lakpa to have some company too. Stay tuned for more...
