The
best, most-nearly cloud-free, Shuttle view yet of Mount Everest,
the highest mountain in the world at 29,028 feet. The peak, on the
border between Nepal and China, is almost exactly in the center of
the photograph. The challenging North Face is in shadow; valley
glaciers radiate in all directions from the central massif. Source

Low morning sun highlights Mount Everest (the
highest mountain in the world at 8,848
meters), Cho Oyu (8,153 meters) to the
northwest, and other peaks of "The Roof
of the World". New snow seems to be
confined to the highest peaks. Abundant
details of glacier surfaces, including
moraines, crevasse fields, and ice falls are
displayed for study. Source
