Dispatch 20: American Ski Everest
Expedition... (Transcribed from a satellite phone voice
message)
May 6th, Dispatch 20 this is Mike.
We are in the midst of this wind storm. Actually the
wind seems stronger today [and sounds stronger on the
phone]. Hopefully, it is a high pressure coming in,
pushing out the low pressure. It is scheduled to move
out tomorrow. Once again we find ourselves repairing
rips and tears in tents.
The Chinese are headed to
Tingri to get get more tents.
The Swiss are in a similar situation, but they got
extra supplies, but still need to get more tents. Many
people are headed down to the Rongbuk Monastery to
stay. A lot of people are paying the Tibetans to stay
in there shanty towns. So far we are told the Korean
expedition is done.
We are one of the few expeditions
that has maintained our base camp. So we are hanging
tight. It is pretty much of a slugfest. But hopefully
this will be over soon and we can get back to
business. Mike
