Dispatch 26: American Ski Everest
Expedition... (Transcribed from a satellite phone
voice message, May 13th Tuesday afternoon.)
We are just leisurely hanging out in
our tents. The winds has picked up once again, but
nothing like last week or the week before. But it was
forecasted [Inaudible] and looking very very windy.
So it is a good thing we are down
here at base camp. Fortunately, it is warmer down here
now, so we can just kind of hang out. Steve, Jimmy and
I went on
acclimatization
hikes up to 20,000 feet just to stay in shape and keep
our minds from numbing too much. It is pretty boring
up here.
This morning very very early the
Japanese almost lost everything but not to a storm.
They had a bunch of cars packed out front and they
were jumping up and down yelling something in
Japanese. Apparently, they were doing a commercial or
something early in the morning in front of Mt Everest
when the light was good. It was not welcomed around
base camp very well. [On the phone he is laughing] But
people understand.
We will stay in touch, out from base
camp. Mike.
