Featured Expedition: 2003 American Ski Everest Expedition
Dispatch

Dispatch 37 American Ski Everest Expedition May 26th: The guys went up, with the exception of myself because I was feeling sick and John, who is going up tomorrow.  All the members who did not ski from 25,000 feet took their skis up today. So they will at least get a ski descent from just over 23,000 feet, or 7,000 meters. So that is exciting. Jim Giles, who was with us on Shishapangma and he did not quite get to ski from 8,000 meters on Shishapangma like Steve and I did. He did ski from 7,000 meters on Shishapangma. So this will be his second ski descent from 7,000 meters. So they will all get 7,000 meter ski descents. As the co-leader of this expedition, this makes me very pleased, as I am definitely more into skiing, than climbing. Although it is regretful, this situation has prevented us from getting a summit. The ski aspect has worked and has been a total success, as far as we are concerned. That part of the trip has been absolutely terrific. On another positive note, we spent the morning drinking coffee while listening to the wind, we planned the next one. I am not going to give anyone any hints on that, but it is always a positive note when guys can sit around on a climb and start talking about the next one. This climb has left the group very hungry and despite the fact that we did not get a summit, the climb is ending on a very positive note.

In other news, the Northern Ireland expedition is thinking about going back up. Brice’s Global Extremes Expedition is heading back up on a summit bid on the 30th. Doctor Jon from our team, who has Sherpa support and is using oxygen, will also be heading up for the summit bid on the 30th. George will also be attempting again for the 30th. On a final note, today I would like to say, Kari Kobler is the finest mountain guide I have ever met. Mike
