Gile American Ski Everest 2003 |
Dispatch Eight: This is American Ski
Everest Expedition, dispatch 8; This is the day we
move up to ABC (intermediate camp). We spent yesterday
resting and going over the medical equipment including
the personal medical kits and just playing around with
the Gamow Bag. It was pretty interesting just getting
in the Gamow Bag and instantly lowering the
altitude
7000 feet. You don't realize how much difference that
makes, when you are healthy at 17,000 feet and you get
into the Gamow Bag and lower the
altitude
7000 feet. You just kind of feel all the things
like the pits and stuff in your stomach that you don't
think are noticeable, then they become noticeable. The
doctor had us all on the right page so we are ready to
go.
Not many teams have made the move up
to ABC yet, but they probably will in the next few
days so we will stay in touch. We are just going to
ABC at approx. 20000 feet. We will have a generator
there, so we will be able to do dispatches at ABC. A
beautiful day today, it
was cold last night. [inaudible then transmission
