 Everest 2003: Jan Krzysztof Liszewski

Krzysztof Liszewski İMonika Rogozinska

Update: On Tuesday, July 10th, will be the mass in Lodz' cathedral for his soul. His wife received his personal things from Everest base camp.

Update Jan Krzysztof Liszewski has been declared dead on Everest as feared. His body has been seen on the Rongbuk Glacier, the rest at this point is speculation as no one has come forward with a first hand account of what happened.

Krzysztof Liszewski (55) was born on February 28th, 1948. This expedition was his third to Everest from the North. All were without oxygen and Sherpas. Krzysztof Liszewski climbed in the Tatras, Alps, Pamir (Peak Korzeniewska and Lenin Peak), in North America - Mount McKinley. In the Himalayas he was twice on Makalu expedition: in autumn 1986 and in winter 2000/2001 (Polish Winter Makalu Expedition). In both expeditions he did not reach 8000 m altitude. He climbed on Mount Everest three times - always from Tibet side, without Sherpas and oxygen. The highest point which he reached was 8650 m. His job was a geodesic engineer. He was a member of the INTERNATIONAL EVEREST -EXPEDITION 2003 SPRING expedition.

Earlier update: Jan Krzysztof Liszewski aka Krzysztof Liszewski is missing on Everest. Early unconfirmed reports from Everest climbers to EverestNews.com of Krzysztof Liszewski missing started several days ago. So for the second year in a row, Everest ends with a missing climber. Our hope and prayers are for Krzysztof Liszewski and his family that he reappears...
