Team Members Reach the Summit!!! May 25, 2003
SUCCESSFUL SUMMIT!
I just received word that five members of the team - Bob
Hoffman, Tom Burch, Bob Boice, Mimi Vadasz, and Brian O'Connor had reached the
summit of Mt. Everest around 8:00 a.m. on 26 May, having battled high winds
since their departure from Camp 4 at 8:30 p.m. last night. They were
accompanied by three of the team Sherpas - will let you know the names as soon
as I find out.
Tom Burch was the first team member on top, followed by Bob
Hoffman, and the others were close on their heels. I was told that Brett
Shepard stayed at Camp 4, but there were no other details.
Apa Sherpa summitted Everest for the 13th time at 3:45
a.m.!! Congratulations to all!
Angie has promised to call again when the team members are
back at Camp 4 - only half of the summit day is finished. They all must be
exhausted from the long ordeal, following two nights at the high camp and many
days at altitude before that. May they climb down carefully and safely. More
details to follow just as soon as they are received. -Sue Hoffman
