Back in the USA June 8, 2003:
Expedition members have all arrived back in the good old USA to the welcome
relief of their family and friends. Now begins the huge task of unpacking,
sorting, cleaning and storing the mountain of clothing and equipment that had
been taken on the great adventure of climbing the highest peak in the world.
Also arriving in San
Francisco today is Apa Sherpa, world's record holder with 13 successful Mt.
Everest summits. Apa is here to attend the
American Himalayan Foundation's
50th Anniversary Celebration in San Francisco on June 10th. He will then be
traveling to Washington, D.C. for further festivities.
Expedition Leader Bob Hoffman
is undergoing treatment of frostbite to his feet and hands. It is a very slow
process and too early to know final results, but Bob wants to thank everyone
for their calls, notes, and concern which will help to see him and his family
through the long recovery.
As soon as we can get photos
and stories compiled, we'll share them with you, so bear with us a little
longer - there's more to come! -Sue Hoffman
