A historic number of mountaineering expedition teams from different countries in the world have been flocked in Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) base camp in a bid to scale the highest mountain in the world on the historic occasion of Mt. Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration. The first team to scale Mt. Everest has been Indo Nepal Army Everest Massif Expedition Team.

Update 5/28/2003: More sad news on Everest and somewhat strange reporting again. Yesterday, EverestNews.com received a report from this team of a death of a member of their expedition. Today that news has apparently been released to the Nepal newspaper by the expedition but apparently has not been released or at least is not reported yet by the Ministry. Therefore, we are holding those details... More to follow.

The Following 6 Nepalese Army, 6 Indian Army  & 5 Sherpas of "Joint Indo- Nepal Army Everest Massif Expedition" team have been successful to climb the summit of 8848m.high Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest on 26 May 2003 at 04:15 AM-05.05    AM.

Surya Sen Thakuri (10 Apr. 1954), Royal Nepal Army, Khadagaun, Daurali, Kaski, Nepal. & Lt. Col. Ashok Abbey (42 Yrs), Indian Army, Defence Colony, New Delhi, India.

Surya Sen Thakuri (10 Apr. 1954), Royal Nepal Army, Khadagaun, Daurali, Kaski, Nepal. & Lt. Col. Ashok Abbey (42 Yrs), Indian Army, Defence Colony, New Delhi, India.

It is worth mentioning here that Ms Junko Tabei, the first lady to scale Mt. Everest has already arrived in Nepal to participate in Mt. Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration and Sir Edmund Hillary, the first legendry figure to summit Mt. Everest with the Late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa is scheduled to arrive to Kathmandu tomorrow.

The Indian Army and the Royal Nepalese Army has two permits for  Everest/Lhotse this spring. Col. Surya Sen Thakuri is the leader of the Royal Nepalese Army expedition and Col. Ashok Abbey is the leader of the Indian Army expedition.... 

Col. Ashok Abbey is an experienced mountaineer and Principal of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttakashi, India.

Both the Indian Army and the Royal Nepalese Army have long histories on climbing Everest.

Summits of Lhotse : The Indian Army and the Royal Nepalese Army has two permits for Everest/Lhotse this spring. Col. Surya Sen Thakuri is the leader of the Royal Nepalese Army expedition and Col. Ashok Abbey is the leader of the Indian Army expedition....  Col. Ashok Abbey is an experienced mountaineer and Principal of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttakashi, India. Both the Indian Army and the Royal Nepalese Army have long histories on climbing Everest. 8 Nepali and Indian army member reached the Summit of Lhotse assisted by four Nepali Sherpas, climbed the 8516 meters high Lhotse May 13th at 8.15AM according to the Ministry of Tourism.
