
Stephen Koch and Jimmy Chin will
attempt to snowboard Everest this Autumn. They plan to
climb Everest via the Hornbein route and then
descend via the Hornbein. They will travel from
Kathmandu to Lhasa then to Everest base camp on the
North (Chinese). Eric Henderson is the base camp
manager.

Dispatch: On the way up ! at 10
PM MST 8/27/2003, Jimmy, Eric, Lakpa, Kami, and Stephen
are planning to leave to attempt the Japanese couloir...
The team will first go to camp 1, refuel, pack and then head
up and climb the Japanese couloir during the night planning to ascend from
6300 meters to 7800 meters. They expect this will take between 10-14 hours,
depending on the conditions.
Once at 7800 meters, the team will need to establish a
platform and refill water bottles, before heading to the summit at around 6:00
MST. They will spend the night climbing the 1000 meter of the Hornbein to the
Summit of Everest. They expect to arrive at the Summit around 58 hours from
the start of the summit push.
