Stephen Koch and Jimmy Chin will
attempt to snowboard Everest this Autumn. They plan to
climb Everest via the Hornbein route and then
descend via the Hornbein. They will travel from
Kathmandu to Lhasa then to Everest base camp on the
North (Chinese). Eric Henderson is the base camp
manager.
Dispatch: "This is Eric Henderson with
the Snowboard Everest Expedition calling on September 4.
It feels like fall up here in the high Himalaya. The
harvest moon is rising in the west and we're dreaming of
clear weather. The blue sheep are traveling down valley
and the sky is turning a deeper shade of blue in the
morning light. The wildflowers return themselves to the
rocky soil and our family of alpine pheasants are
getting fattened up - a little help from Lakpa our cook.
The mornings are
clear and inspiring us to stay patient while the
afternoons are producing snow showers. We're here at
ABC, waiting for our window to climb. Our time is being
past reading Vanity Fair, novels and dreaming of Snake
River Zonker Stout.
The past monsoon is upon us and our
spirits are high. We are presently working on extending our visas and waiting
a few more weeks 'til Chomolungma gives us a window to climb."
