Status: We wait as the Summit
is only the half way point. The real true summit is about 1-1 1/2 hours for
normal climbers from the rocky summit. The real Summit of Broad Peaks add about
3 hours to the trip, probably less for Jean-Christophe Lafaille and
Ed...
Update:
Moro's team reports:
FROM FRENCH:
Summit on Broad Peak!!! The
main summit has been climbed yesterday by myself and by Iñaki Ochoa de Olza,
at 11 hours in the morning, in Alpine style and under very strong winds.
Lafaille and Ed V. have done the same leaving from camp 3 at 7100 m. We have
met at the summit, after having opened the trail, erased by the wind. We are
at base camp and tomorrow Lafaille, Ed V. and Alberto Magliano will go back
home. With the 8 Kazaks (3 have reached Broad's summit today) K2 is being
attacked now... if weather permits, and so our strength. Bye.
FROM SPANISH:
The main summit of Broad has
been climbed!!! I and Iñaki Ochoa de Olza have reached yesterday at 11 hours
in the morning in Alpine style from Camp 2 (6,200) the main summit of Broad
Peak. Ed V. and J. C. Lafaille have also crowned it, although both of them
left from camp 3 at 7,100 m. We have met at the summit, under a clean sky and
a very strong wind that had erased the trail, which has made us work hard. We
are already at base camp and tomorrow Lafaille and his wife Katia will go back
home, along with Ed V. and the Italian Alberto Magliano. For me, Iñaki and the
8 members of the Kazak team (three of them have made Broad's summit today) the
fight with K2 starts today... if the weather and our strength permit. Bye.
