 Current Nepal Time

Dispatch Group One: The first 3 Dhaulagiri dispatches are in...

Dispatch Two: April 24th 2003: Hi! Finally Jean Christophe arrived yesterday, Wednesday April 23rd, night at Daulagiri's Base Camp, situated at 4800m. Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch Three: Hi, Jean Christophe's is just back from base camp. He left this morning to climb to Camp I at 5800m in order to acclimatize and leave material. The feelings are very good, he feels all right physically and mentally. Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch Four: Weather conditions are very bad. He has climbed, as planned, to Camp 1 at 5800m on Saturday and spent the night there. On Sunday April 27th he climbed, into the bad weather, to camp 2 around 6800m in order to leave a heavy load of material, and then back to camp 1 where he wanted to spend the night but weather conditions were so bad that he decided to join base camp. Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch Five: This morning, very early, around 3.30, Jean Christophe Lafaille and two German guides from another expedition, left base camp to climb to Camp I at 5800m. They considered it was better to leave early in order to avoid the rather frequent snow slides following the weather conditions of these last days, the ascent was very tiring, much of snow, sometimes to the chest, fortunately he relayed with the Germans. Yesterday, Sherpas from the German expedition tried to climb to Camp I, soon made impossible and dangerous because of the avalanches. Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch Six: This Wednesday May 7 he left base camp to go up to camp 1. His material was buried under 1m70 of snow after the storm of these last days. Today, at the altitude where he was the weather was bad. Snow during the all the day...  Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch 7: Today, Friday, he climbed up to 7000 m of altitude, and then settled at camp 2 at 6800 m to spend there the night in his sleeping bag which he carried with him from camp 1 this morning.   Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch 8: May 14th 2003 Hi! I arrived May 13th at Marpha, at 2750m. This is the village where my trekking ends and the place where I have to meet Jean Christophe. I am at 3 days of walk, more or less, from Dhaulagiri base camp. In the other way (Dhaulagiri base camp – Marpha) just one day walk.  Check here for the full dispatch.

Dispatch 9: Dispatch May 19th 2003 - JCL: It is difficult for me to give you news about Jean-Christophe as I’m not having any contact with him except a letter which I received via carriers who went down to Marpha. Check here for the full dispatch.
