Alaskan
Reminiscences: 60 Years of Adventure with
Bradford and Barbara Washburn, A
Film By Thomas Pollard and Bradford Washburn; 43
minutes
Together
Bradford and Barbara Washburn have come to epitomize
Alaskan adventure. Brad, now over 90 years old,
made thirteen first ascents of Alaskan peaks,
pioneered the use of motion picture film in aerial
photography, and is responsible for the definitive map
of Mt. McKinley. Barbara was the first woman to
summit Mt. McKinley in 1947 and accompanied Brad on
other Alaskan first ascents.
After
a lifetime of adventure comes "Alaskan Reminiscences:
60 Years of Adventure With Bradford and Barbara
Washburn", a must see video for anyone interested in
Alaskan mountaineering history. Documenting a
filming trip to Alaska in July of 2000 the Washburns
return to some of the places that they literally put
on the map, and recount some of the first ascents that
made them legends in Alaskan history. The film
culminates with a spectacular flight around the summit
of North Americas highest and most respected peak,
Mt. McKinley
