If
you have followed EverestNews.com for a while, you
know we like good causes. We are trying to give just
a little back
for all the good things we have in our lives. As you
know there are so many people in the world in need.
The need is so great.
But if we all try to do just a
little, we can make a difference. Please
read all the way down !!!!
Current
Update (11/12/2001) on some of the projects
Note:
Bob Uppington is our contact with Shiva charity. We
first got to know Bob when Ginette
Harrison's friends came to us and ask that we announce the Ginette
Harrison Fund. Since then we ASKED Bob to set up the Babu and Peace climb funds.
Here is his latest update:
1.)
The Babu Chiri Fund received about £6000 in
donations, which means that we are supplying the
school at Akang with a teacher from Darjeeling, the
school in Chhulemu, and the Taksindu monastery with a
teacher from Darjeeling, and we are helping with the
Babu Chiri Memorial Foundation that has been set up in
Kathmandu. The Babu Chiri Fund will, when the new
school is built next year, be concerned with child
sponsorship as well, so that we can guarantee a long
and secure future for the education at the school.
(SHIVA Charity is concerned with the education....
paying for teachers, and equipment) not with the
building.
The
current monthly donations to the Babu Chiri Foundation
is £250 .... but when the building is done we
will be committed to more. So the donation will
probably last about a year... that is why we will need
the child sponsorship. Bob

The
Babu Chiri stupa (gumba) is at the bottom
entrance to Swayambhu temple. Friends and family
were there to do pooja in July. It was a very
moving experience with the ceremony and the
chanting, and the raising of the prayer flags.
Ang
Phuti, Babu's wife, was there with one of her
daughters, Tashi. Later Anil (SHIVA Project
Manager) myself and Karma, went with Ang Phuti
to visit her daughters' school.
Five
of her six daughters attend the Mahandra Bhawan
Girls' High School, Naxal, Kathmandu.
They
have been sponsored by individuals from France
and from Nepal. The school is a large one,
administered by Unicef, and the teachers are
well qualified and friendly. We were all very
impressed, and happy that Babu's daughters are
in good hands.
Babu
Chiri Bal Kalyan Primary School, Akang
I
had the great privilege to cut the tape and
officially open the school in August. The
building itself is fine and sturdy, though, like
most schools in Nepal, could do with better
lighting!
There
was also only one local teacher, and when we
arrived, just eleven pupils. I had brought an
experienced teacher from Darjeeling (Aganat)
with me, and he has the job of increasing the
intake to at least thirty five by December.
SHIVA charity will pay the monthly salary of
both teachers.
Kimberly
Rae Pease trekked with us to Taksindu, Akang,
and Chhulemu. She has started "Nameste"
charity to help education in Nepal and Tibet.
Here she is being welcomed by some of the
children from Babu Chiri BKP School.
The
next Babu Chiri project at Chhulemu
The
school at Chhulemu (long white building in the
photo) is just beyond Taksindu Monastry. There
are about fifty five children at present
attending. The needs assessment for this project
have been outlined by Kimberly, and you can
click below to see it.

2.)
The Ginette
Harrison Memorial Fund
The
Ginette Harrison Fund is now a regular £240 per month
in child sponsorship donations, and other project
donations made, which means that we can afford to keep
the school in all books and equipment, and events. We
are also expanding by helping the government school
next door. We had some extra funds to rebuild it, as
it was falling apart! Now we are setting up a
"Resource Centre" for both the schools to
use, and we will put in a library typewriters, and
computers etc. So far the extra project money has been
about £1000 for the government school and £1500 for
the Ginette Harrison School. The £240 per month,
though, will go on for many years, we hope! Bob
3.)
The
Peace climb fund: We hope, with your help, to
raise money for a non-profit
organization AKUT, the non-profit group TEGEV (an
education programme in Turkey), and the Babu Chiri
School Fund. This Peace Climb fund needs your
support!!! AKUT
itself is a wonderful organization that needs more
long term support and promotion. We ask for your
support as this fund really needs more support. To
support this vision of peace, please make a donation,
via SHIVA charity. You can make a credit card donation
by
clicking HERE.
This
(credit card donation) is open to people around the
world, so for the many that wish you could help
EverestNews.com by giving to us, but live outside the
US, we
ask that you give what you would to us to this good
cause.
We all will be better in the long run. Thank You again
for your support.
