Autumn Everest 2001: Hungarian Everest - Lhotse Expedition (2001)

Out of superstition I won't write down which day we hope to leave. Yesterday we watched a cartoon; today I'm going to the swimming pool. It's hot - the temperature is at least 3-4 degrees higher than yesterday. We feel faint as these degrees wrap us like a huge blanket: eddies of dust dance slowly in the air, the rickshawmen, the beggars, the dealers, the saints and the crippled only smile and nod their heads when I pass them in the street. Kathmandu, the large foremother who doesn't count her children or their faults and sins either - has embraced us. Still, I hope we will leave soon.
