Autumn Everest 2001: Hungarian Everest - Lhotse Expedition (2001)

Trudging up a slippery avalanche of stones in a drizzle at the height of 4900 meters is great fun - the unacquainted onlooker might think when they catch sight of the group of drenched yak drovers: the latter wear a plastic bag over their heads, laugh and drink raksi. (Remember the raksi with the taste of stain-remover from earlier, don't you?!) They offer me some drink but I flee gasping for breath. "They're nice..." - I think - " but could hurry up a bit". I snarl at them. Miki and Konyi arrives from the exploratory hike and - what a wonder! - they've found a real PNEUFT skull. Tomorrow Doc's going to start the chromosome analysis and the dental and chronological examination. You can read about the results on this page - and nowhere else! In company of beer, candlelight and wet socks at the foot of the Everest from the height of 4974 meters: David.
