Mountain Guides Everest 2002 Dispatch 16 - Team
Safely Down to Camp 4
Thurs
May 16, 2002 approx. 6:00pm
IMG
team members Phil and Sue Ershler, Ted Wheeler,
Stuart Smith, and Sherpas Danuru, Mingma Ongel,
Mingma Tshering, and Dorje Lama have now
successfully descended to the South Col (26,200
feet) where they met Kevin Flynn, Mark Tucker, and
Ang Passang who had remained in support. They
will all spend the night there and head down to Camp
2 tomorrow, then to Base Camp the next day.
The team wants to thank Apa Sherpa (who made his
12th ascent) and Willie Benegas who did some
critical rope fixing on the South Summit / Hillary
Step. The Ford No Boundaries team,
climbing on the IMG permit, is spending tonight at
Camp 3 and will be heading to the Col tomorrow, on
the 17th, so we'll have another suspenseful IMG
summit day soon!
