Dan Mazur's Kangchenjunga Spring 2002

Dispatch March 20th, 2002: We were feeling quite rested in camp 1, so we awoke early in the morning and began walking to camp 2 at 7:30 in the morning. We were a group comprised of: Martha Johnson, Michael Doyle, Richard Fullerton, Daniel Mazur, Pemba and Pinso. The wind was mild to nill, the day was sunny, the temperatures were around 5 degrees C, and the climbing was quite good. We walked to the base of the ropes and changed into our harnesses, then proceeded up the lines to the top of the cornice. Martha and Pemba and Daniel followed up the pack, while the rest of the group went on to the previous day's camp 2. The wind picked up in the afternoon, and really began to blow. Martha and Pemba and Dan reached camp 2 at 1830 pm, and were grateful to find tents erected and a cup of hot tea provided by Richard. The wind blew through the evening and it was warm and cozy inside the tents, although not altogether easy to sleep, especially for Martha, who had a headache and nausea. Mainly, our small group stayed awake through the night, brewing hot drinks and waiting for sleep, which finally came, toward morning.

Thank you very much. Cheers for now. Yours
Sincerely, Daniel Mazur from http://www.SummitClimb.com

Note: In March of 2002, this team is attempting the 7200 meter Mount Nojin Kansa (picture below), a moderate peak near Lhasa Tibet, which has never had a western ascent. In April-June of 2002, they will be attempting Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, located in Eastern Nepal.
