Report 4/27/2003:
Another phone call from Frits. Unfortunately, Norbert Joos' laptop seems to be
really broken, so there won't be anymore written updates from Frits I'm
afraid.... The
International team are all happy and in good health, and taking 2-3 days rest
in Base Camp. They have established camp1 at 6200 meters and have made a cache
at 6800 meters, below camp 2. Norbert Joos' team have been instrumental in
fixing the route up to camp 2 (at 7160 meters) and they (or at least Norbert)
have slept at C2. No one has climbed higher yet on the mountain so far. Frits
did not report on Carlos' team, but I assume they are OK as well. Nor did he
say anything about Andrew Lock and his friend. Alan Hinkes still has not
arrived in BC.
The weather is getting
warmer, but there is still a little snowfall in the afternoons. However, the
slopes seem avalanche safe. The do not expect to make a summit bid before May
15. That's it for now!
