Breaking news (12:30 Spain time): Following the
plan, Carlos Pauner and his expedition partners,
Silvio Mondinelli, Mario Merelli and Kuntner, have
reached 7,700m. They have installed a little tent
which they carried along and they are planning to
spend the next hours in what would be a fleeting
camp III. They left base camp yesterday and reached
camp II at 7,000m. In spite of the strong wind that
has been whipping the Himalayas these days, they had
the nice surprise to find all their material in
perfect shape. This next morning, around 3:00 AM
(local time) they will leave for the summit of
Kangchenjunga. Everybody is OK and very motivated
and they will use the next hours for eating, hydrate
and rest. The weather conditions are favorable so
far, but there is still some wind. Next update:
tomorrow 5/10 around 10:00 h. (Spain time)
5/10/2003 Breaking news (10:00,
Spain time): The strong wind and the bad weather
have made Carlos Pauner and the rest of his
teammates to quit their attempt to summit
Kangchenjunga. At the planned time to exit their
tent and leave to the summit, the wind was blowing
with strength and they decided to delay the
departure with the hope there would be some change.
After two hours the wind had not stopped blowing,
and it started snowing, so they had made the
decision to descend to base camp. At this time they
are all already resting at base camp.
