First
Dispatch 4/27/2001:
"The first 6 names have all been to camp 3 at
7300m and are now down the valley resting in
Pangboche. The team helped fix the Lhotse Face. After
trying one of the free weather services the IGO
8000 members, 4 expeditions in all, 2 on each side
of Everest decided to pay for the tried and tested
Bracknell forecasting as in the past 5 years. One
other experienced team has asked to be involved on the
usual cost sharing basis. The data to prepare the
forecast may be identical, it's all in the
extrapolation, which Bracknell has in spades. It's
like not getting cheap brakes and tires for the school
bus!! The alternative may be expensive but it
potentially saves possible horror." One quote
from an expedition leader " when there's a 25
mile snow plume from the summit, you know low wind
forecasts are wrong." International
