4/17/2002: Makalu 2002 Second Progress Report from
American RD Caughron: Armed
Maoists demand money from the Makalu teams.
The
bad weather is preventing mountaineers from reaching
Makalu La so far; climbers are still attempting to fix
the couloir leading to the pass.

5/6/2002: "On the 4th of May the team:
Piotr Pustelnik, Rysiek Pawlowski, Darek Zaluski and
Martin Gablik found Camp II on Makalu La. There's a
2 Polish tents and some tents of Swiss - Italy
expedition. Some of the members of this expedition
tried to reach Makalu summit directly from Makalu
La, Unsuccessfully... They lost the way and had to

5/14/2002: "On 12th May the first group: Piotr
Pustelnik,
Ryszard Pawlowski - Poland, Darek Zaluski and
Martin Gablik started to climb to camp I and reached
camp 1 the same day. Click

reached Makalu summit!
