The
AMICAL alpin Manaslu 2002 expedition will
start on April 18th, 2002.
AMICAL
Alpine Manaslu Expedition arrived at base camp:
The
expedition team left Munich for Kathmandu on
April 10. I left a little bit earlier in order
to get the last things organized in Kathmandu.
As
Maoist attacks have intensified in the last
few weeks and months we decided to abandon our
plans to walk in through the Buri Gandaki and
Nubri valleys North of Gurkhas and fly to
Samagoan instead. Click

AMICAL
alpin Manaslu Expedition reaches Camp 2 (6600
meters): We
have spent three full days in BC to
acclimatize after we reached BC (altitude 4800
m = summit of Mont Blanc) so quick. The air
contains only half of the oxygen as is does at
home. That means we have to relax and to go
slow... Click

AMICAL alpin Manaslu
Expedition stuck in deep snow: We descended in a very
good mood from Camp 2 (6600 m.) to BC on April 24 and
25. We had ascended almost to quick so we were looking
forward to a couple of rest days. Unfortunately we had
no rest days because we have been shuffling snow
continuously... Click

Manaslu
Basecamp (4750m): AMICAL alpin Manaslu
Expedition spends the night at Camp II: Finally,
on April 29, the snowing stopped. During
windy, yet sunny weather we waited for the
snow to settle and were able to set off to
Camp I on May 1, just in time for the Day of
Work... Click
