  • Only the Strongest Summit on Saturday from the South:

Babu Chiri Sherpa (his 10th Summit without Bottled Oxygen) and setting the speed record (15 hours and 56 minutes from BC to the Summit on the South Side).

Byron Smith, Lhakpa Tshering, Ang Dorje, Nuru Wangchu, Mingma Tenzing, Mingma Dorje, Karchen Dawa, and Tenzing Dorje.

If you missed Byron and CBC yesterday. Check them out at http://cbc.ca/everest2000

They updated all day long as planned.

Numerous others did not make the attempt or turned around.

Our Question, right now is : Was Byron the only Non-Nepal climber to make the Summit last night ? He is the only one we have confirmed !!

  • North:

Summits: Pemba Dolma (first woman from Nepal to Summit from the North) and Dolf Riest with the Swiss.

Dolf Riest, (correctly spelled Dolf Reist), is of course the the fifth person to Summit Everest. He did so On May 24th, 1956. This was posted to confirm if others were copying our News. Now we know... Very Very sad.

  • Thrane & Thrane all Danish Mount Everest Expedition

Status: Bo returned early in his summit attempt due to malfunction of oxygen system and illness, he is now in camp 2.

Jan Mathorne and Allan Christensen (without bottled oxygen) made it to the south summit, but then returned due to high wind. One of our sherpas made it to the summit.

Regards, Henrik Jessen Expedition Leader

The BigE-expedition and its progress can be followed at Thrane & Thrane’s website: http://www.tt.dk/everest/intro.html

Status As time draws short for our attempt on this mountain, Paul and Andrew have headed up today for their final summit attempt. The weather forecast indicates an opportunity on May 23rd, so that will be their aim. Today they have gone to camp 2 and weather permitting, they will continue their ascent to arrive at camp 4 on the afternoon of the 22nd.They will be accompanied on the attempt by their Sherpa team of Nima Ghombu and Tsillen.

  • Hugo Rodriguez

Status: Hugo turned around but Babu made the Summit, so the expedition is very happy. Check them out ! http://www.everest2000.net

  • Everest Spring 2000: A 14 year boy

A 14 year boy, Temba Tshering Sherpa, plans to attempt the Summit of Everest in Spring 2000 from the Nepal side of the mountain. Needless to say, he would be the youngest to Summit Everest if successful. Temba Tsheri Sherpa born in 06/05/85 is climbing Mt. Everest. Temba got inspiration for climbing Mt. Everest from his father and the fairy-tale he used to hear from friends and relatives about the success of climbing Mt. Everest and the fame you earn after. The name Temba signifies one of the manifestation of Lord Buddha, meaning as Temba Ringpoche. The middle name Tsheri signifies as Tshe Ring meaning Long Life.

Status: The boy did attempt the Summit last night, but did not make the Summit.

  • Retena Expedition Odyssey Everest 2000

Status: Attempted the Summit Friday night again, but had to turn around.

  • AL FILO DE LO IMPOSIBLE (Irvine & Mallory)

In Spring 2000, Juan Oiarzabal from Spain will head an expedition to emulate Mallory & Irvine's 1924 attempt on Everest. Juan is one of only 6 men to Summit all of the 14 8000 meter peaks. This expedition will film their climb while attempting to reproduce Mallory & Irvine's ascents. Juan and his expedition will attempt the same route as Mallory & Irvine without the use of bottled oxygen. Juan Oiarzabal is clearly one of the greatest H. A. climbers ever, gives this group hope and credibility.

The Expedition climbing members are: Juan Oiarzabal, Alberto Zeraνn, Iρaki Querejeta, Ferrαn Latorre, Juan Vallejo, Josu Bereciartua, Oscar Cadiach expedition members. (Spanish Spellings)

What is their Everest experience? Alberto Zerain climbed Everest (S Col) in May 1993. Oscar Cadiach climbed Everest in Aug 1985 (N Col route) and May 1993 (S Col). Juan Oiarzabal did the 14 8000m peaks between 1985 (Cho Oyu) and 1993 (Everest S Col with oxygen.).

Status: Attempted the Summit and turned around Friday night; More on this on Monday or Tuesday.
