EVEREST
DISPATCH: Ready for the Summit
Date: May 5, 2001 Location: EV BC
It's been pretty busy these days; we've returned from
Camp 3 (23,500'),
where we've spent two nights acclimating for our
upcoming summit attempt (s). Our schedule over the
past several days has been as follows:
April 22 BC Rest
April 23 Base Camp to Camp 2
April 24 Camp 2 Rest
April 25 Camp 2 to Camp 3 (night 1)
April 26 Camp 3 Acclimatization (night 2)
April 27 Camp 3 to Camp 2
April 28 Camp 2 Rest
April 29 Camp 2 Rest
April 30 Camp 2 Rest (Babu's recovery)
May 1 Descend from Camp 2 to BC
May 2 BC Rest
May 3 BC Rest
May 4 BC Rest
May 5 BC Rest
The above represents our longest foray above Base
Camp; a total of 8
nights.
At
this time all members are feeling well, although some may
choose not to climb. There is a lot of conjecture
among the teams as to who will fix the mountain above
the South Col. Time will tell...and more info later
when it's "cool" to share it with you all.
It's the most stressful period of the expedition...the
waiting game. Thank God for Zantac...it's great on my
acidic stomach!
It's
getting cold on the fingers here...we hope to trek up
a small peak called Kalapatar tomorrow for something
new.
