Update
5/18/2002: Charlie Fowler reporting from base camp
May 18th...
The
Mountain Madness team has returned to base camp
safely. Everyone is doing well and will leave base
camp tomorrow. The team will
be back in Kathmandu on May 22.
On
May 16th around midnight our team left the south
col. Matthew Holt decided to stay at camp 4.
Hector Ponce de Leon, Charlie Fowler, Julio Bird,
Andy Colyer, Lakpa Gelu, Lama Jangbu and Nima
Gombu left for the summit. At the south summit,
Andy decided he went far enough and returned to
camp 4. Charlie, Julio, Lakpa Gelu, Lama Janbu
summited Everest shortly before 11am. Charlie,
Julio, Lakpa, Janbu headed down to meet Andy.
Hector arrived a short time later at the summit.
