Will
Machapuchare be opened for climbing?
|
The
Nepal government is said to be considering opening
Machapuchare, considered one of Nepal's most sacred
peaks, for climbing. Machapuchare, aka fishtail peak,
is regarded as a holy mountain by the people of Nepal.
The mountain has been closed since 1957, when a British
expedition led by Jimmy Roberts stopped about 500 feet
below the Summit. The mountain is said to be approx
6696 meters high.
